Jozani Forest Tour Zanzibar – Red Colobus Monkeys & Mangrove Experience (Optional Salaam Cave Add-On)
Discover the natural beauty of Zanzibar with the Jozani Forest Tour, one of the island’s most important eco-tourism experiences. This guided tour takes you into Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, home to rare wildlife, mangrove forests, and rich biodiversity found nowhere else in Zanzibar.
Your journey begins with a comfortable hotel pickup, followed by a drive into the heart of the island’s largest protected forest. Jozani Forest is famous for being home to the endangered Red Colobus Monkeys, a species found only in Zanzibar. During your visit, you will have the chance to observe these friendly monkeys up close as they move freely through the forest.
As you continue through the park, you will walk along wooden boardwalks through the mangrove ecosystem. This unique environment connects land and sea and is home to crabs, small fish, and many coastal species. Your guide will explain the importance of mangroves in protecting Zanzibar’s coastline and supporting local biodiversity.
The forest itself is a peaceful natural reserve filled with ancient trees, tropical vegetation, and diverse wildlife. It is also an important conservation area that plays a major role in protecting endangered species and supporting local communities.
This Jozani Forest National Park tour in Zanzibar is perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and travelers looking to experience the island beyond its beaches.
Optional Experience – Salaam Cave (Extra Cost)
After the Jozani Forest tour, you have the option to continue to Salaam Cave in Kizimkazi, a sea turtle conservation site. Please note that this part of the experience is optional and comes at an additional cost, which depends on the selected package. Guests are kindly advised to contact us in advance for pricing and availability.
At Salaam Cave, you will learn about sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation programs. The turtles are kept in a protected environment where they are cared for before being released back into the ocean. This makes the experience both educational and meaningful.
You will also have the opportunity to enter the crystal-clear waters and observe or swim alongside sea turtles under controlled and ethical conditions. The experience is designed to support conservation efforts while allowing respectful interaction with marine life.
Please note that the Salaam Cave experience is focused on animal protection and rehabilitation. It does not support animal abuse, and all turtles are part of an active conservation program.
